Data policy
What we publish
Listings show business details from the public FMCSA registry: company name, phone number, business address, USDOT number, registration status, year first registered and fleet size. Listings built from Google show the name, phone number, website and, where the profile gives one, the address. Listings built from a state license list show the name, town and phone number the list gives, and the list's entry. For some businesses we also show a Google rating and review count, when there are at least 3 reviews, and an entry from a state license list.
What we don't publish
- Email addresses from the registry or from a license list.
- Review text from Google or anywhere else.
- Anything we can't trace to a source. Blank fields stay blank.
Asking for a change
Many small businesses register under a personal name or a home address. If your listing shows details you'd rather not have published, email quotes@plumbinginformationsite.com with the listing link and we'll review it. Verified owners can hide their Google rating themselves from their listing dashboard.
Businesses added by their owners
When an owner adds a business at List your business, we store what the form asks for: the business name, phone number, town and state, the street address, ZIP code and website if they're given, the jobs it takes, and an email address for signing in. We call the phone number to read out a code, and the email address is never shown on the site. An approved business is listed as “Added by the owner”.
If we turn a business down, we delete its details and keep only its state and county, the jobs it named, the dates and our reason, and Updates shows how many were turned down that day, never which or why. A business whose code is never entered is deleted after seven days.
Quote requests
If you ask for quotes, we store what you told us: the kind of job, the ZIP code, your answers to the optional questions, your description, your name, email and phone, and the consent wording you agreed to. We never publish a request on the site.
The consent on the form says PlumbingInformationSite.com and matched contractors or partners may contact you about it. Matched contractors are plumbers and heating and cooling contractors near the ZIP code you gave: contractors in your county that have claimed their listing come first, then others nearby. Right now a person here reads every request and passes it on. Partners are companies that pass requests on to contractors in their own network. We don't share requests with any partner yet, and we'll name each one here before we do.
When we offer a request to a contractor, the offer shows the job, the town and your description, with names, phone numbers, email addresses and street addresses taken out. Your name, email and phone go to whoever takes it: one contractor, when a contractor that has claimed its listing takes it, and two at most otherwise.
A week after you send a request, we email you once to ask whether you hired anyone, and keep your answer with the request.
To have a request deleted, email quotes@plumbinginformationsite.com from the address you sent it with. We delete our copy. A contractor that already has your details keeps theirs, so ask them too.
Contractor payments
Contractors who pay for Pro or for a quote request pay through Stripe, which holds the card details. We never see the full card number. We keep the card's brand and last four digits to show which card is on file.
Visitors
This site doesn't use advertising cookies and doesn't sell visitor data.
We count page views and a few actions (a phone number tapped, a quote form started or sent, a listing claimed) with Vercel Web Analytics. It's cookie-free: it sets nothing on your device and stores no identifier for you, so we can see that a page was used and not who used it. What it records about an action is the kind of page it happened on and which listing or form it was, never your name, email, phone number or anything else you typed.
